This session will explore practical strategies for strengthening Tier 1 supports to ensure all students have access to the essential social-emotional and mental health skills needed for success in school and beyond. Participants will examine ways to build effective partnerships with school and community providers to meet students’ mental health needs and enhance the continuum of support available to students and families. The session will also highlight meaningful approaches to family engagement, including opportunities to educate and empower families through accessible, relevant resources and educational materials.

Participants will leave with practical ideas and strategies they can use to strengthen Tier 1 practices, build collaborative partnerships, and engage families as essential partners in supporting student success.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Expanding Tier 1 to build essential skills for student success.
  2. Strategies for engaging support partners to meet students’ mental health needs.
  3. Creation of family engagement opportunities and education materials. 

 

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS


 

CHRISTY MURRAY

Christy graduated from Anderson University (2006) with her bachelor’s degree in social work and received her Masters in Social Work from Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (2008). Christy then obtained her Post Masters certificate in School Counseling (2015). Christy started her career at North Grove Elementary School as the School Social Worker and was there for six years before moving to Center Grove Middle School Central as the School Counselor for a little over three years. Christy then worked at the Indiana Department of Education as the Director of Social, Emotional and Behavioral Wellness before coming back to serve as the Executive Director of Student Services in Center Grove Schools. Christy is passionate about creating positive whole-child focused school environments for each student.
     
   

KYLE MILLER

Kyle currently serves as the Director of Student Support and Counseling Services for Westfield-Washington Schools. Kyle has spent 20 years at Westfield-Washington Schools serving as both a School Counselor and District Administrator.

In this role, he coordinates and aligns comprehensive student support systems for 11 schools and supports a team of 22 school counselors, 6 student mentors, and 2 school social workers to create aligned systems of student support K-12.  Kyle is a certified trainer in the PREPaRE Crisis Response model and is an Advanced Practitioner with the Center for Mind Body Medicine. Kyle has extensive training in suicide prevention and intervention, behavioral threat assessment, trauma-informed practices, and has worked with the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning to integrate the Enduring Principles of Learning into the cultivation of vibrant learning environments.
