The School Counselor Bootcamp provides early-career Indiana school counselors with high-impact, practical training and a strong professional network to help them thrive in their first years. The bootcamp focuses on real-world skills and scenarios not typically covered in graduate coursework, while also aligning with ASCA standards and Indiana requirements.

The Bootcamp features:

  • In-person kickoff at the 2025 INSCA Conference
  • Five monthly virtual sessions on Zoom (December-April)
  • Suggested reading from the ASCA School Counselor Magazine or The Indiana School Counselor
  • Recordings available for asynchronous access
  • Shared Google folder of templates/resources
  • Certificate of Completion and PGPs

Bootcamp Schedule

All sessions are 60 minutes and on Zoom except for the November 21 Kickoff at the INSCA Conference.

  • November 21 - 2:15pm - Kickoff @ 2025 INSCA Conference
  • December 16 - 11am - Starting the Year Strong
  • January 14 - 10am - Ethics, Mandated Reporting, and Indiana Code
  • February 10 - 10am - 504s, MTSS, and Collaboration with Education Partners
  • March 17 - 11am - Practical Use of Data and Tools
  • April 2026 - Date/Time TBA - Use Data to Drive Interventions

The deadline to register is extended to December 12, 2025.

About the Presenters

Samantha Vidal

Samantha Vidal has been a school counselor in Indiana for over 15 years and has devoted her career to advocacy for the profession and servant leadership. She was recognized as the Indiana Elementary School Counselor of the Year in 2014 and a Top 6 National Finalist for the ASCA 2016 School Counselor of the Year. Samantha is committed to the development of data-driven, comprehensive school counseling programs and believes that all students deserve a school counselor. She values collaboration and partnerships that enhance student-centered systems and effective interventions, identify achievement gaps, and meet the needs of each and every student.


 

Amanda Culhan

Amanda Culhan has had the privilege of serving as a school counselor, school counselor educator, and state school counseling specialist. Since 2020, Amanda has coordinated Counselor Connect, a statewide network supporting student service professionals, operated by the Central Indiana Educational Service Center. Amanda is a licensed school counselor with over twenty years of experience, 11 of which were served as the School Counseling Specialist for the Indiana Department of Education. She is devoted to equipping school and community professionals to better serve students, and has K-12, postsecondary, and state government experience. Amanda earned her Master of Science degree in Educational Studies, with a specialization in School Counseling, from Purdue University. In her free time, Amanda enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, traveling, and being outdoors!
